Clinical Governance

Audit & quality improvement

More than twenty audit, re-audit and quality-improvement projects across UK NHS trusts — most taken through a full cycle to closure. Principal themes:

  • Consent quality — audit and re-audit of consent-taking (East Surrey Hospital); consent in hip hemiarthroplasty (Wrightington).
  • BOAST guideline compliance — early management of paediatric forearm fracture (QIP and re-audit); management of children with acute musculoskeletal infection.
  • Subacromial decompression practice — study of surgery and adjunct procedures, with re-audit; the basis of subsequent publication and international presentation.
  • Unstable ankle fractures — service evaluation of surgical management and re-audit, including timing to fixation and surgical site infection.
  • Distal radius fracture management — audit and closing-the-loop re-audit.
  • Knee arthroscopy for osteoarthritis in the elderly — retrospective cohort service evaluation and re-audit in relation to subsequent arthroplasty (Warwick Hospital).
  • Hallux valgus correction outcomes — audit of surgical outcome (East Surrey Hospital).
  • Laboratory turnaround — audit of reporting time for joint fluid analysis (Wrightington Hospital).
  • UK Corona TRAUMA Surge (UKCoTS) — national multicentre COVID trauma audit, Royal College of Surgeons of England; site data collection.
